Brian D. Jones

Brian D. Jones joined Sorling Northrup in 2006 and became a shareholder on January 1, 2014. He concentrates his practice in the areas of banking, real estate, business formation and transactions, general commercial law and litigation and employee benefits.

Mr. Jones regularly advises financial institutions on a wide variety of legal issues, including compliance, complex loan documentation and collection. He regularly represents such clients in state and federal court. His business law practice includes advising clients on issues relating to entity formation, contract negotiation and drafting, real estate transactions and commercial litigation. Mr. Jones also has significant experience advising clients on matters relating to employee benefits, including drafting plan documents and providing compliance advice.

Mr. Jones graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (B.S. Finance, 2001), and also received his Juris Doctor (cum laude) and M.B.A. (Finance) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005. During his law school career, Mr. Jones served as an Associate Editor on the University of Illinois Elder Law Journal.

Mr. Jones is a member of the American, Illinois State and Sangamon County Bar Associations. He serves on the board of directors of the Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois and on a committee for the local chapter of the American Lung Association. He formerly served on the board of directors of Helping Hands of Springfield, Inc, including a one year term as its President. He was a member of the Leadership Springfield class of 2006-2007. Mr. Jones has spoken at numerous seminars on topics including business entity formation, employee benefits and tax exemption. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Benedictine University where he taught health care law and at Robert Morris University where he taught business law.
