James D. LeVault, a Stonington, IL native, joined Sorling Northrup upon earning his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University (magna cum laude, 2018). While in law school, Mr. LeVault was a judicial extern with the Honorable Fredrick Kapala of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and with the Honorable Bradley T. Paisley of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Christian County, Illinois. Mr. LeVault also completed an externship in the Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic where he represented indigent clients in criminal proceedings.

While at Northern Illinois University, Mr. LeVault held numerous board positions and was the Editor-in-Chief for Volume 38 of the Northern Illinois University Law Review. Mr. LeVault published an article on United States Department of Labor hours worked regulations.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. LeVault worked for the United States Department of Labor as an Investigator from 2007 to 2010 and the Federal Bureau of Investigations as an Investigative Specialist and later a Supervisory Investigative Specialist from 2010 to 2015.

Mr. LeVault’s practice areas include: advising local governmental bodies, general litigation, estate and probate matters, family law, and labor and employment. Mr. LeVault is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
