Northrup joined Sorling, Northrup, Hanna, Cullen & Cochran,
Ltd. in 1993 and concentrates his practice in environmental law,
professional disciplinary defense, and commercial litigation.
Mr. Northrup represents clients in both enforcement and permitting
matters before the United States Environmental Protection Agency,
the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Pollution
Control Board, and the trial and appellate courts. Mr. Northrup
also advises clients regarding commercial transactions between
private parties involving complex environmental issues, and represents
attorneys before the Illinois ARDC and other professionals before
the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
In addition, Mr. Northrup practices commercial litigation across
a broad array of non-environmental areas.
Mr. Northrup was an Associate Editor of the Southern Illinois University
Law Journal during law school, and upon graduation served for two
years as a prosecutor with the Chicago office of the Illinois Attorney
Registration and Disciplinary Commission. From 1990 to 1993, he
served as an enforcement attorney for the Illinois Environmental
Protection Agency. He also represented the Agency in various permitting
and rulemaking proceedings.
Mr. Northrup is a member of the American, Illinois, and Sangamon
County Bar Associations, as well as the Association of Professional
Responsibility Lawyers. He has served as an elected member of the
Illinois State Bar Association Assembly and the ISBA’s Environmental
Law and Mineral Law Section Councils. Mr. Northrup has authored
many articles on environmental law and is a frequent lecturer on
environmental and professional disciplinary matters.
