Lisa Harms Hartzler joined Sorling Law Offices in 2006. Her practice focuses on the general corporate representation of health care providers and on specific health care issues, including reimbursement, licensing, Certificate of Need, tax-exempt bond financing, allied health professional contracts, and federal and state tax exemptions. She has contributed two articles on governing board duties for the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network’s “Governing Board Manual” and has spoken on various health care topics, including the Illinois Nursing Act and advanced nurse practitioners, government health care investigations, health information technology, and affirmative action plans for health care providers. She also has experience with alternative energy projects and in the analysis of local legislation impacting real estate industries.

Ms. Hartzler graduated from North Central College (B.A., cum laude, 1975) and from The American University Washington College of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1978). She was Senior Note & Comment Editor of The American University Law Review, which published her Comment in 1978.

After law school, she joined a large Chicago law firm, where she was a member of the Health Law and Real Estate Departments and became a partner in 1985. Her practice concentrated in general health law, not-for-profit tax-exempt financings, and the acquisition, disposition and leasing of industrial, office and retail properties. Ms. Hartzler relocated to Springfield, Illinois, and provided litigation research and drafting for a local law firm prior to joining Sorling Law Offices.

Ms. Hartzler has been active in numerous charitable organizations, including the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where she was Vice Chairman and a member of the government advocacy committee. She created a program that offers reconditioned band instruments to low-income families in her local school district and recently served five years as chairman of the board of St. John’s Lutheran Preschool in Springfield.

Ms. Hartzler is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Illinois Association of Health Care Attorneys. She is also a member of the Illinois State, Sangamon County, and Central Illinois Women’s Bar Associations.
