Michelle P. Clatfelter joined Sorling, Northrup, Hanna, Cullen & Cochran, Ltd. in 2009 upon graduation from law school. She was admitted to practice law in Illinois that same year. She concentrates her practice in the areas of health law and business transactions.
Ms. Clatfelter graduated with high honors from Saint Louis University (B.A. summa cum laude, 2004) and received her Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2009. Prior to law school, Ms. Clatfelter spent three years working as a writer and research analyst for the Illinois Senate Republican Communications and Research staff. Serving on the Senate Committee for Health and Human Services, she worked with major health care policy issues, such as medical malpractice tort reform, Medicaid managed care, charity care, Medicaid cost control measures, health provider reimbursements, and the Certificate of Needs process. While in law school, Ms. Clatfelter earned a Certificate in Health Law and was a Lead Editor on the Journal of Health Law & Policy.
Ms. Clatfelter advises health care providers in the areas of compliance programs and investigations, STARK, fraud and abuse, HIPAA, EMTALA, reimbursement, contract negotiation and preparation, managed care, medical staff relations, licensing, tax-exemption, and corporate restructuring. Additionally, Ms. Clatfelter advises clients in connection with the formation of various business entities, including partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies, and not-for-profit corporations. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, along with the American, Illinois State, Central Illinois Women’s, and Sangamon County Bar Associations.
