William B. Bates is a sole proprietor operating
under the firm name of Woods & Bates, Attorneys at Law, in
Lincoln, Illinois. He commenced his practice of law in Lincoln
upon graduation in 1978 from law school. Sorling, Northrup, Hanna,
Cullen & Cochran, Ltd. and Mr. Bates entered into a formal affiliation
in May of 1995, pursuant to which Bates became of counsel to Sorling
while maintaining his private practice in Lincoln, Illinois.
Mr. Bates' practice in Lincoln is concentrated in estate planning,
including drafting of trusts and wills, administration of decedents'
estates, real estate, and collection matters. His practice includes
representation of the local hospital in Lincoln, Illinois, as
well as a Lincoln-based privately owned oil company operating
throughout
Illinois. Mr. Bates also serves as City Attorney for Lincoln.
Mr. Bates received his Juris Doctor from Drake University Law
School with honors in 1978, and was a member of the Order of
the Coif.
Mr. Bates is a member of the American, Illinois, and Logan
County Bar Associations and is a past President of the Logan
County
Bar Association. He is active in local civic, charity, and
educational affairs, and has served as president of a school
district board.
