Pro Bono / Community Involvement
Sorling, Northrup, Hanna Cullen & Cochran has
a strong tradition of involvement in the community and the legal
profession. This involvement reflects a shared principle among
Sorling lawyers that such involvement is an important aspect of
practicing law and being good citizens.
From its earliest days, the Sorling firm has played a leading
role in the growth and quality of life in the City of Springfield.
Its lawyers and staff serve as volunteers and community activists,
board and committee members, and officers and trustees of both
for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Sorling lawyers hold
or have held leadership positions in civic organizations such as
the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of
Sangamon County, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Lincolnland D.A.R.E.,
Urban League, the Boy Scouts of America, the Boys and Girls Club
of Springfield, Junior Achievement, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra,
and the Springfield YMCA. A number of Sorling attorneys have also
held similar positions in such charitable organizations as the
Salvation Army, the Springfield Association for Retarded Citizens,
the Lincoln Land Community College Foundation, the Old State Capitol
Foundation, and the Illinois Bar Foundation.
Sorling lawyers have also participated actively and extensively
in professional organizations such as the Sangamon County Bar Association,
the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers
Association, the American Bar Association and others. Several of
the firm’s lawyers presently serve or have served as officers,
board members, or chairmen of some of these organizations. Sorling
has also been recognized for its pro bono efforts on behalf of
the LincolnLand Legal Assistance Foundation.
